A TRIBUTE TO OLD MAESTROS / THE CHURCH OF THE BIRTH OF THE VIRGIN MARY IN DOMAŽLICE

Jiří Stivín and Collegium Quodlibet. A confrontation between Baroque music and jazz. A fusion of two different epochs and diverse approaches to rendition.

Pay a visit to Domažlice and the Chodsko region, one of the few ethnographic areas in Bohemia, and explore this gorgeous, picturesque little town with its signature arcade, a leaning cylindrical tower and the Lower Gate. Domažlice offers a rich year-round cultural programme culminating in the Cultural Summer, a project spanning several months and offering dozens of diverse events throughout the peak tourist season, the grandest one of them being the Chodsko Folk Festival – St Lawrence Festival. Accept the invitation and "come and stay for a while". Walk around the town built by Ottokar II of Bohemia and discover its picturesque nooks and the remnants of the fortifications from the 13th century as well as the Chodský Castle, today the Museum of Chodsko with an observation tower.
A deep footprint of the Baroque era in Domažlice is evident in the converted Dean Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary, where we will invite you to enjoy a concert during the main part of the festival's musical programme.

PROGRAMME
The concert titled as A Tribute to Old Maestros is based on a confrontation between Baroque music and jazz, right on stage, where the chamber ensemble of Collegium Quodlibet meet their artistic director Jiří Stivín with a jazz quartet, creating an interesting fusion of these different musical epochs and diverse approaches to rendition.
