The festival of Baroque monuments, landscape and culture of the Pilsen Region
29 June – 30 August 2015
FUND-RAISING CONCERT / CHURCH IN BROD NAD TICHOU
26 July | Sunday 2:00pm – 5:00pm
The church will be open from 2pm. At 4pm, there will be an early Baroque music concert performed by the German ensemble of Alcinelle under the lead of Ursula Stöckl. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated towards the repair of the precious altar sculptures.
The name of the village and the Brod castle can be traced back to 1243, to the title of Vítek (Witiko), perhaps a member of a side branch of the family of Vítkovci. The entire town was destroyed in a crusade in 1431. Archaeological finds prove the existence of the castle in the 14th and 15th centuries. Legend has it that John Hus spent a night at the castle in Brod nad Tichou. The Church of Saint James which stands here today, with its oldest parts probably dating back to the 15th century, is assumed to have originally served as the castle chapel. The church is decorated with precious wooden sculptures; proceeds from concert admission will be donated to help preserve them.
