OPENING OF THE FESTIVAL
There are only a few places that play such a significant role in the history of the Czech lands. The Castle of Zelená Hora, once a Gothic castle and since the end of the 17th century a Baroque jewel constituting a major feature of the landscape, was inhabited by the leading nobility and also hosted rare visitors, such as Maria Theresia, Joseph II, Franz Joseph I with his wife Sissi, and Ferdinand d'Este. Furthermore, it used to keep the Czech St Wenceslas Crown. The complex of buildings on top of Zelená Hora also includes the Baroque Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary.
PROGRAMME
Symbolic opening of the festival 9 Weeks of Baroque | second evening
The second day of the opening ceremony of the festival 9 Weeks of Baroque continues in a place associated with legends. After the opening ceremony of the evening, visitors will have an opportunity to join enlivened tours of certain parts of the castle. A rich cultural programme will be prepared in the castle garden. In addition to dance and theatrical performances, it will be possible to smell fragrances of the Baroque prepared by the perfumist Petra Hlavatá. Visitors can also enjoy the tasting of a Baroque menu. The renowned music group Collegium Marianum and the independent puppet theatre Buchty a loutky will perform in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. These ensembles will present an original adaptation of the early Baroque opera La Calisto by Francesco Cavalli, connecting puppet theatre performance with live singing and musical accompaniment. At the same time, the castle park will offer a Castle Baroque Ball presented by Hartig Ensemble. Artists will perform period dances in the original form choreographed by Prof. Helena Kazárová and accompanied by the soloist Irena Troupová and musicians from Musica Florea.
